Information Technology means the practice of collection, storage, use and dissemination of information by means of Computer Systems and Telecommunications through Electronic media.
The main purpose of
Telecommunications is to transmit representations of information between remote locations;
Electronics provides hardware technology for designing and manufacturing of management information system and
Computers take on the role of automatic data processor.
These three technologies have changed the world today. Futurists talk about the 21st Century in terms of the "information economy", the "information society", and even the "information age", who knows what directions these technologies may take in future under the umbrella of "Information Technology".
University of Sindh had been quite foresighted in developing these technologies since last 24 years in educating and training the manpower in the "Institute of Information Technology (IIT)".

Institute of Information Technology is run jointly by the following departments:
I I T produces graduates and postgraduates with:
- A broad knowledge of information technologies, both software and hardware;
- The skills necessary to design computer-based information systems;
- An ability to apply the technologies effectively for diverse environments.
Institute of Information Technology (I I T) with its strong scientific and technological base imparts education to the youth coming from urban and rural areas of the province of Sindh. Institute of Information Technology is the only institute of its own kind in Sindh and throughout Pakistan which has the combination of these three technologies called the technologies of 21st century. Since its inception in 1980, the Institute of Information Technology is producing trained manpower in the related fields of Information Technology in this modern computer age. This has helped the country to a great extent to fill the gap of manpower shortage.
The central focus of I IT activity is the development of advanced information technology appropriate to the encoding, storage, communication, manipulation, and the use of information in digital form. I IT is a multidisciplinary laboratory operated technological center to deploy the software and hardware needed for this effort.
